Are you wondering whether the Alexander Technique is right for you? 

I certainly was when someone first told me about it.  They said the Alexander Technique was great and they said it would help me.  They couldn’t explain what it was and how it worked very clearly but they said it had worked wonders for them.  So I tried it and I was amazed. 

I still didn’t know how it worked, but already I felt so different that I said to myself: “This is extraordinary.  You’ve really got to learn this.”  14 years on, I’m still teaching it and still enjoying it and finding it every bit as rewarding as I ever did. 

Most people come to the Alexander Technique because of physical problems of some sort that they just can’t shift.  They may have had an injury, or an operation, or it may be postural.   Although some come because of stress or tension or breathing difficulties. 

People come to the Alexander Technique with a wide variety of different problems that mean they don’t feel as comfortable in their body as they would like to. Sometimes they come as a last resort.  They may have been told that they will have to ‘learn to live with it’; in other words learn to ‘live with the pain’.

Discover how to live better with the body you have

With the Alexander Technique (AT) you’ll discover how to live better with the body you have.  The AT is not a magic wand.  But it is a fantastic tool for making small, safe, subtle changes that lead to exponential improvement in terms of your comfort and quality of life. 

Of course, massive instant change might sound more attractive.  But it tends not to work like that.  In fact, it only takes a series of small, delicate changes to create major, qualitative change.  For example, your posture probably won’t change overnight, but over time you can expect to look – and feel - straighter, more grounded and more relaxed. 

 Problems vary, but where the Alexander Technique is concerned, the way of addressing them doesn’t vary.  It doesn’t need to.  People are always treated with maximum care and respect, because that is what enables them to respond best.

“Will I respond to the Alexander Technique?”        

When you are treated with care and respect and you come to realize that where you are is absolutely fine then, yes, you will respond well to the Alexander Technique.  You are never too old, or too set in your ways, or too … anything. 

Just think for a moment about little children and the fluidity and ease of movement they have.  You see, once upon a time you had that.  Actually you still do.  Because it was ‘hard-wired’ into you.  If you hadn’t had it programmed into you, you wouldn’t have known how to ‘do’ movement in the first place.  The Alexander Technique will help you to reconnect with that programming.
